What is an expert witness?
Acts in front of a tribunal.
Adhere to rules of tribunal and in accordance with RICS Practice Statement and Guidance Note for Surveyors acting as expert witness, 2014 (to be updated shortly).
The primary duty of an expert is to the court, not their client.
What is the difference between an independent expert and an expert witness?
Independent expert is a dispute resolver who decides a dispute
Expert witness is appointed to present evidence to a dispute resolver
What is an advocate?
Similar rules to expert witness, but:
Acts in front of an arbitrator or independent expert (and certain tribunals).
