Can you tell me some types of brickwork?
A
a. Solid Wall – usually more than one layer, different patterns to tie bricks together such as Flemish bond
b. Cavity Wall – 2 layers of brick tied together with metal pins (weep holes can be seen)

What is the difference between a stretcher and a header
A
- Stretcher brick – a brick laid flat with long edge exposed.
- Header – a brick laid flat with short end exposed.

What is Efflorescence?
A
white marks caused by hydroscopic salt

What is spalling?
A
damaged brickwork, surface crumbles due to freeze/thaw, after it has become saturated in the winter months
