4 Basic Tissue Types Flashcards
What is the function of glandular epithelial?
Secretion, from glands
Explain endocrine epithelia
Endocrine epithelia secrets hormones directly into blood stream
Describe exocrine epithelial
Exocrine epithelia secrets hormones into ducts or onto surfaces
What are the 2 types of epithelia tisssue?
Covering and lining , glandular
What are the 5 cell junctions in epithelia tissue?
Truncation, adherents junction, gap junction, desmosomes, hemidesmosomes
Describe tight junctions and their fucntion
Tight junctions are located at the top of the cell, cells are bonded together by Claudins and occludins. The the junction is electrically tight providing sealing and protective factors, also selective barrier/ semi permeable
Describe the adherents junction and its function
The adherenes junction has a gap which is spanned by CADHERIN which links to care in of the other cell. The catering binds the cadherin to actin
Describe the gap junction and its function
The gap junction is where 2 connexon of different cells join and open a communication channel, known as hydrophilic channel
Describe desmosomes and their function
Desmosomes have a gap between plaques of cell membranes. The gap is spanned by cadherin. The cadherin links to desoplankin of the other other cell. The desmoplankin binds the cadherin to keratin.
Describe hemidesmosomes and their function
Hemidesmosomes connect cells to the basement membrane (BM). The gap between the cell and BM is spanned by intergrin which binds to lambing of BM
What makes up the basement membrane
Basal lamina and reticular lamina
What is basal lamina made of?
Make from produces secrets by epithelia tissues.
What is reticular lamina made of
Made by secretions of fibroblasts in the connective tissue
What are the functions of the BM
Acts as physical barrier, diffuses oxygen and nutrients from CT to epithelia, supports overlaying epithelia, provides a surface for epithelial cells to migrate during growth/wound healing.
What are the ABCD warning signs of melanoma and what increases the risk?
Melanoma is dangerous once it has penetrated the BM
A- asymmetry
B- border
C- colour
D- diameter
