3rd Six Weeks Flashcards
Coordinate Plane / Graph / Grid
A grid with the x-axis and the y-axis.
Scale Model
The ratio of the length in a drawing or model to the length of the real thing.
Similar Figures
Two shapes are similar if the only difference is size and possibly the need to turn or flip one around.
Corresponding Sides
If the relative position of two sides is same in two figures, then they are called corresponding sides.
Corresponding Angles
When two parallel lines are crossed by another line, the angles in matching corners are called corresponding angles.
Inverse Operations
The operation that reverses the effect of another operation.
Comparison
A statement stating the difference between two or more numbers or between decimals/fractions.
Property of One
In multiplication, the product of any number and 1 is that number (2 X 1 = 2). In division, any number divided by 1 will equal that number (3/1 = 3).
Factor of Change
The factor that changes a number. (ex: 3 times 4 equals 12. So, times 4 is the multiplier that changes the 3 into 12)
Equivalent Fractions
Two or more fractions with an equivalent value.
Equation
An equation says that two things are the same, using mathematical symbols and includes an equal sign.
Expression
Numbers, variables, and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together without an equal sign.
Percent Equation / Proportion
Refers to a ratio of a whole figure, but expressed in the terms of 100.
Ratio
A relationship between two quantities, normally expressed as the quotient of one divided by the other.
Rate
A ratio that compares two quantities of different units.
