3RD LECT Flashcards
Defined as the total number of deaths in a calendar year per 1,000 mid-year estimated population (approximation to the average population “exposed to risk” of death during the year)
CRUDE DEATH RATE (CDR)
To calculate the rate specifically for a group.
E.g. Age, Sex, Ethnic Groups
SPECIFIC MORTALITY RATE (SMR)
the number of deaths from a specified cause per 100,000 person-years at risk
CAUSE OF DEATH RATE
Sometimes interested in the mortality rate in a certain subpopulation.
CAUSE OF DEATH RATE
Can calculate a cause specific/disease specific mortality rate for people with specific disease.
CAUSE OF DEATH RATE
The ration of infant deaths registered in a given year to the total number of live births registered in the same year
INFANT MORTALITY RATE
The number of resident newborns in a specified geographic area (country, state, county, etc.) dying at less than 28 days of age divided by the number of
resident live births for the same geographic area (for a specified time period, usually a calendar year) and multiplied by 1,000
NEONATAL MORTALITY RATE
The number of resident newborns dying between 28 and 364 days of age in a specified geographic area (country, state, county, etc.) divided by the number
of resident live births for the same geographic area (for a specified time period, usually a calendar year) and multiplied by 1,000
POST-NEONATAL MORTALITY RATE
The number of resident maternal deaths within 42 days of pregnancy termination due to complications of pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium in a specified geographic area (country, state, county, etc.) divided by total resident live births for the same geographic area for a specified time period,
usually a calendar year, multiplied by 100,000.
MATERNAL MORTALITY RATE
The number of maternal deaths in a given period per population of women who are of reproductive age.
MATERNAL MORTALITY RATE
Number of maternal death per live birth
MATERNAL MORTALITY RATIO
The number of deaths from a given cause in a specific time period divided by the total number of deaths in the same time period
PROPORTIONAL MORTALITY RATE
measures the severity of the disease that causes death
CASE FATALITY RATE
For example, among a total of 200 patients with disease A, 20 of them died
from the same disease within 30 days; the 30-day case fatality rate = 20/200 ∗
100 = 10%
CASE FATALITY RATE
incidence,prevalence
