3B Le Chateliers Principle Flashcards
Le Chatelier’s Principle
If an external stress if applied to a system at equilibrium, the system adjusts in such a way that the stress is partially offset as the system reaches a new equilibrium position
N2+3H2 <–> 2NH3:
If NH3 is added, which way will the equilibrium shift
The equilibrium shifts left to offset stress
Which way will equilibrium shift:
Increase concentration of products
Left
Which way will equilibrium shift:
Decrease concentration of products
Right
Which way will equilibrium shift:
Increase concentration of reactants
Right
Decrease concentraiton of reactants
Left
How does this shift equlibrium:
Increase all partial pressures
Shifts towards side with the fewest moles of gas
How does this shift equlibrium:
Decrease all partial pressures
Shifts towards side with most moles of gas
How does this shift equilbrium:
Increase volume of reactor
Shifts to Side with the most moles of gas
How does this shift equlibrium:
Decrease volume of reactor
Shifts towards side with fewest moles of gas
Treat the heat of a reaction as a ______
Compound
Is this endothermic or exothermic: A -> B + heat
1. If you increase temperature heat, what happens to K
2. If you decrease temperature/heat, what happens to K
Exothermic
1. K decreases
2. K increases
Is this endothermic or exothermic: A + heat -> B
1. If you increase temperature heat, what happens to K
2. If you decrease temperature/heat, what happens to K
Endothermic
1. K increases
2. K decreases
If heat is consumed, where is heat (products or reactants)
Reactant
If heat is Released, where is heat (products or reactants)
Products
