Define what is meant by a moral issue.
Moral issues are those that concern an individual’s sense of right and wrong.
A person’s morals can be influenced
by the people around them.
Define what is meant by a ethical issue.
These are the factors that define the set of moral values by which society functions.
Define what is meant by a legal issue.
These are activities which forbidden by law.
What is personal data?
Name & address- anything that identifies you as a living individual.
Who collects personal data?
These days, most organisations collect, store and manipulate data. Think about what data school has about you.
Why is this an issue?
Personal Privacy. Data Security. Misuse of data. Surveillance by government. Online profile. Profiling.
Define what is meant by personal privacy.
We may not have given our EXPLICIT consent to a lot of the data collected about us.
Define what is meant by data security.
With much of the data stored online or on networks connected to the Internet how can we ensure that data is secure?
Define what is meant by misuse of data.
Data collected for one purpose is then used for another OR sold on without our consent.
Define what is meant by Surveillance by government.
Many are concerned that our human rights are being abused by using data to monitor individuals.
Define what is meant by Online profile.
How careful are you about what you post online? What you say may contribute to what people know about you( security services, potential employers).

Many organisations use data they accumulate online to create a profile about individuals.
Outline other issues:
Unauthorised access to systems. Unauthorised use of software. Inappropriate behaviour. Inappropriate content. Freedom of speech. Unemployment. Access to the Internet.
Define a code of conduct.
Many organisations have a code of conduct about what is and is not acceptable in using their computer systems.
Are code of conducts legally enforceable?
Codes of conduct are not legally enforceable but breaches of them would form the basis of disciplinary procedures against an employee.
