3.7.3.2 - Electric Field Strength Flashcards
Where does charge move?
Positive to negative.
What do electric field lines show?
The path a small positive test charge would follow.
In radial fields describe the movement of charge if the sphere is positive.
To infinity, away from the centre.
In radial fields describe the movement of charge if the sphere is negative.
From infinity so towards the centre.
Describe the movement of an electron in a uniform field.
Electron moves towards the positive side in a parabola shape.
What is electric field strength? (E)
The force per unit charge acting on a small positive test charge at that point.
Is electric field strength a scalar or vector?
Vector.
What happens to field strength in a uniform field?
Stays constant as field lines stay the same concentration.
What happens to electric field strength in a radial field?
Field strength drops with distance as field lines become further apart.
What is E measured in?
NC-1 or Vm-1
What is E proportional to?
1 / r^2
Describe E r graph for replying
Smooth curve downwards like a c
Describe the E r graph for attracting
Reflected in x axis for repelling
