3.7-mitosis Flashcards
What is mitosis important?
growth, repair, reproduction
3 stages of the cell cycle
interphase, mitosis, cytokenisis
stages of mitosis
IPMAT
interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Prophase
DNA condenses and coils, nuclear envelope breaks down, centrioles move to opposite poles
Metaphase
Spindle fibres attatch to centromeres and chromosomes line at equator
Anaphase
Centrometers divides, chromatids move to opposite poles
Telophase
Chromosomes uncoil, nuclear envelope reforms
how does cell division take place in prokaryotic cells?
binary fission
describe binary fission
1) DNA replicates + plasmids, both copies attach to cell membrane
2) cytoplasmic membrane elongates, separating DNA molecules
3)cytoplasm divides
4)new cell forms between 2 molecules, dividing the original cell into 2 identical daughter cells
