3.6 Reversible Reactions Flashcards
Give an example of a reversible reaction
Ammonium chloride –> ammonia + hydrogen chloride
What happens when ammonium chloride is heated?
It decomposes to make ammonia and hydrogen chloride
What happens to ammonia and hydrogen chloride when it’s cooled?
It reacts to make ammonium chloride
What is the point of equilibrium?
When the rates of both reactions are equal so there are equal amounts of yield for each reaction being produced in both directions
What is required for endothermic reactions and why?
Energy is required because I’m endothermic reactions bonds are broken which requires energy
What is given out in ectothermic reactions and why?
Energy is given out because in ectothermic reactions bonds are made which releases energy
Describe a reversible reaction
The reactants can make the products and the products can make the reactants
