3.5 The Yield Of A Chemical Reaction Flashcards
1
Q
What is meant by the term leverage yield?
A
It compares the amount made with the theoretical amount made
2
Q
How to calculate percentage yield:
A
(Amount of product made / maximum amount of product possible or theoretical amount of product) x 100
3
Q
How to calculate the theoretical amount of product
A
- Work out Mr of product
- Find the grams of a reactant used
- Divide the Mr by the Ar for the product that you know that mass of and multiply by the mass to give you the theoretical % yield of the product
4
Q
Why is it not usual that chemical reactions would collect the theoretical product from an equation? Name 5 reasons
A
- reaction may not have completed
- other reactions may happen
- some product might be lost when it is separated
- some product might be left in the apparatus
- it might be a reversible reaction
5
Q
Why is using reactions with high yields more sustainable?
A
They help conserve resources, and reduce waste, and waste little energy and money, reduce pollution, production is more sustainable
6
Q
What is meant by the term yield?
A
How much you actually make
