That divorce is will break the legal agreement made in marriage, but not the holy agreement made with God.

That they may separate.
During the separation time they should keep working to restore their marriage.
They may not enter into sexual relations with anyone else.
What do Roman Catholics believe should happen if a couple is having difficulties in their relationship?
Advice and support should be given to anyone who has gone through a divorce, even though they do not agree with it.
Can a Roman Catholic remarry after a divorce?
No.
The RC Church considers this to be adultery as God does not accept divorce.
What does annul mean?
Agreeing that the promises made in marriage were not valid so neither is the marriage.
Why might a marriage be annulled?
If someone had been forced into the marriage without their consent.
If a marriage has been annulled can they remarry?
Yes, the individuals are free to marry someone else.
What is the Church of England’s view on marriage?
That a couple should work hard to keep their lifelong vow of commitment.
What does the Church of England think about divorce?
It is sometimes inevitable and in this case a couple could divorce.
What should happen if a couple divorce?
The Church should care for both people.
Does the Church of England allow divorcees to remarry?
Yes - but it is up to the Parish Priest to decide if they will officiate the marriage in church or not.
The priest will take into account why the divorce happened in the first place.
