3.5 Newtons Laws Of Motion Flashcards
Newtons first
A body will remain at rest or continue to move at a constant velocity until an external force acts on it
Newtons second
Resultant force on an object is proportional to the rate of change of momentum of the object, and the momentum change takes place in the direction of the force
Newtons third
If object a exerts a force on object b, object b will exert an equal and opposite force on object a
What is needed for Newton’s third law?
Forces must be of the same type
Must be acting in opposite directions
On different objects
Momentum equitation
Mass x velocity
What is the principle of conservation of momentum?
The total momentum before a collision is always equal to the total momentum after the collision, provided that no external forces are involved
Define impulse
The forces of a force and time time for which it acts
What is impulse the same as?
Change in momentum
what is the area beneath a force time graph?
Impulse
Define force
Rate of change of momentum
