Under which circumstances is a firm insolvent?
When the firm cannot meet liabilities as they fall due and does not have assets in excess of liabilities.
Why is it unlikely for an insurance company to become insolvent?
- A regulator typically regularly monitors the financial position of insurance companies.
- Insurance company regulation typically requires companies to hold a minimum level of solvency capital.
