3.4 cirualtory system Flashcards
What are the 3 tissues in the heart
Cardiac muscle tissue, Nerve tissue and components to blood
What are the 3 main parts of circulatory system
Heart, Blood, Blood vessels
how many blood components are there
there are 4 components to blood
Name all 4 blood components and expain them
Red blood cells ; transport oxygen throughout the body
White blood cells : fight infections and illness in the body
platelets : small cells that help in blood clotting
Plasma : Liquid component of blood made out of protein, carries the blood cells to the platelets
What are blood vessels, and what are they responsible for ?
Responsible for transport blood throughout the body 3 main types
What are the 3 main types of blood vessels and explain what they do
Arteries, : carry blood away from the heart
Veins : carry blood to the heart
capillaries ; the tiny blood vessels that are responsible for gas exchange
What are the main functions of the circulatory system
Transports substances like nutrients and oxygen around the body. Carries waste from the body .regulates the body temperatures by sweating or shivering, transports white blood cells to areas in the body fighting viral bacteria illness .
A person has a blockage in a coronary artery. How might this affect their circulatory system?
The blockage can reduce or stop blood flow to the heart muscle, leading to a heart attack because the muscle doesn’t get enough oxygen.
Why is the left ventricle of the heart more muscular than the right ventricle?
The left ventricle pumps blood to the entire body, requiring more force, while the right ventricle only pumps blood to the lungs.
What is the main function of red blood cells in the circulatory system?
Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to the body and carry carbon dioxide back to the lungs for removal.
Which part of the heart pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body?
Left ventricle
