3.4 Flashcards
How many ways can you generate electricity?
6 different ways
- Induction
- Chemical
- Heat
- Light
- Crystal Deformation
- Friction
What is the effect called from crystal deformation?
Piezoelectric effect
With friction, how is the charge distributed?
It is distributed over the entire body
Where is an electrical field concentrated mainly on a body?
At the edges of the object (e.g. trailing edges of a wing)
What are two substances that make up a thermocouple?
Alumel and Chromel
With friction, what is not intended?
Any voltages reaching values in KV
How does induction generate a voltage?
When a coil enters the magnetic field of a magnet and an electrical voltage is generated in the coil during movement.
What happens during electrolysis?
A voltage between two electrodes is generated. Due to two different pieces of metal being immersed in an electrolyte.
What is charge separation?
When light impinges upon a semi conductor (germanium or silicon) and separates charge. This causes a potential difference and a current to flow.
What is induction?
If a coil enters a magnetic field of a magnet, an electrical voltage is induced during the movement
What is thermionic emission
Heat to emit electrons. Heating causes the emission and the emission causes voltage.
