Features to classify animals

A
  • Presence of nervous system
  • Type of symmetry (radial = symmetry around a central axis, OR bilateral = symmetry around a midline)
  • Protostome (mouth develops first) vs. deuterostome (anus develops first)
  • Number of germ layers (layers of cells) in developing embryo
  • Presence of coelom (body cavity)
