3.2.3- Chemical Equilibrium Flashcards
What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction in which the products of a reaction can react together to reform the original reactants
What is dynamic equilibrium?
When the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction
What is Le Chatelier’s Principle?
When a system is subject to a change in conditions, the position of equilibrium will shift to lessen the effect of that change
Why is it useful to shift equilibrium?
To maximise the yield of a desired product
What is the impact of changing temperature on the equilibrium?
Increasing the temperature makes equilibrium shift to favour the endothermic reaction
What is the impact of changing pressure on the equilibrium?
Increasing the pressure favours the side with the fewer moles
What is the impact of changing concentration on the equilibrium?
Increasing the conc of reactants will produce more products
What is the impact of catalysts on the equilibrium?
Don’t effect the position
What is the value of Kc affected by?
Temperature
