3.2 The Peritoneal Folds and Disposition of Viscera Flashcards
What is the Mesocolon?
The Peritoneal Process attaching the Colon to the Posterior Abdominal Wall
What are the 2 ligaments which are part of the Lesser Omentum?
- The Hepatoduodenal Ligament
- The Hepatogastric Ligament
What is the Falciform Ligament?
The Ligament which attaches the Liver to the Anterior Abdominal Wall - it is also the marker for separating the Left and Right lobes of the Liver

The Umbilical Vein
How many layers of the Peritoneum are present in the Greater Omentum?
4
What is the Greater Omentum sometimes referred to as?

What function of the Greater Omentum, leads to it’s other name?
For limiting the spread of infection by wrapping itself around the infected part of the Organ - it is attracted to this by inflammatory exudates

The Peritoneal Recess on the Posterior Abdominal Wall, lying lateral to the Ascending and Descending Colon
What is the Clinical Significance of the Paracolic Gutters?
Bile, Pus, or Blood leaked from the Abdominal Viscera may collect within these Paracolic Gutters, occasionally distal from the affected Viscera
What are the 3 Abdominal Viscera which lie in the Free Edge of the Double Layer of Peritoneum (Described as the Mesentery)
- The Transverse Mesocolon
- The Sigmoid Mesocolon
- The Appendix
