Permissive Signals

Permissive signals are distinguished by two light units, or one light unit and marker disc being staggered.
- the lower unit is positioned in a diagonal line to the right of the upper unit

Signal Calling between Pilot and LE
The Pilot must come to an agreement with the LE as to which method of Signal Calling is to be applied before the movement occurs.
Shunt Signals

Clear Medium Speed

What is Normal Speed?

What is LOW speed?

What is MEDIUM speed?

- train must not exceed 25kph unless authorised by; higher speed board or ETCS indicates a higher speed
- medium speed must be maintained until the train is clear of all points to which the signal applies

Conversion of Absolute to Permissive with ‘A’ Light

‘A’ lights are also provided on some Intermediate Absolute signals to:
- assist with recovery of disabled trains
- axle counter resets
- signalling communication failures
