Permissive Signals
Permissive signals are distinguished by two light units, or one light unit and marker disc being staggered.
- the lower unit is positioned in a diagonal line to the right of the upper unit

Signal Calling between Pilot and LE
The Pilot must come to an agreement with the LE as to which method of Signal Calling is to be applied before the movement occurs.
Shunt Signals

Call: Yellow on Shunt
Action:
- proceed cautiously at low speed (max 25kph)
- points are correctly set
- prepare to find track occupied or obstructed
- rail may be broken or displaced

- proeed cautiously at low speed (max 25kph)
- points are correctly set
- prepare to find track occupied or obstructed
- be ready to stop short of any obstruction
Shunt Signals
Name: Clear Low Speed
Call: Green on Shunt
Action:
- proceed at low speed
- points are correctly set
- track is clear but suitable for low speed only
- next signal in advance at Caution or Clear
Clear Medium Speed
Name: Clear Medium Speed
Call: Medium Clear
Action:
- proceed at medium speed until train is clear of all points to which the signal applies
What is Normal Speed?

- always includes flashing yellow, yellow or green in upper unit
- trains must not exceed the speed laid down for the locality
