What is osteochondritis?
An idiopathic condition in which bony centres of children/adolescents become temporarily softened due to osteonecrosis
What does pressure lead to in osteochondritis?
Deformation
What happens after deformation in osteochondritis?
The bone hardens in new, deformed position
What will be found on radiography in osteochondritis?
Initially, increased density and sclerosis, followed by patchy appearance
What are the types of osteochondritis?
Scheuermann's disease Kohler's disease Kienboch's disease Friedberg's disease Panner's disease Perthe's disease
What is affected in Scheuermann’s disease?
Vertebral ring epiphyses
What kind of condition is Scheuermann’s disease?
Autosomal dominant genetic condition
What does Scheuermann’s disease lead to?
Vertebral tenderness and kyphosis

Wedge-shaped thoracic vertebrae
What is affected in Kohler’s disease?
Navicular bone
Who does Kohler’s disease present in?
Children 3-5 years
How does Kohler’s disease present?
Pain in mid-tarsal region leads to limp
What does Kienbochs disease affect?
Lunate bone
Who does Kienbochs disease present in?
Adults
How does Kienbochs disease present?
Pain over lunate, especially on active movement
