3.2 Natural Selection Flashcards
What are selection pressures?
Factors which affect the survival of organisms in an environment
Give some examples of selection pressures
Predation, availability of food.
What can a mutation lead to
An advantageous allele
Describe the process of natural selection
-Varation occurs within environment due to different organisms having different alleles. This happens via mutation
-Conditions in an environment change which adds a selection pressure.
-Organisms with the advantageous allele will reproduce as pass allele on to offspring, survival of fittest.
-This results in an increase of allele frequency in population.
What are the three kinds of adaptations organisms occupy niches by
1-Behavioural
2-Anatomical
3-Physicacal
What is meant by behavioural
These are actions by the organism which help them to survive or reproduce.
What is meant by anatomical
These are adaptations which are structures which can be observed or seen when an organism is dissected.
