CAGE code
Commercial and Government Entity code - 5 digit alphanumeric code assigned to different manufacturers
P/N
Part Number - alphanumeric code of any length assigned by the manufacturer; squadrons utilize part numbers to acquire parts/material
NSN
National Stock Number - 13 digit stock number assigned to identify an item of material in the supply distribution system of the United States
FSC
Federal Supply Classification - 4 digit number (first 4 digits of NSN) which identifies major groups and classes; designed to permit the classification of all items of supply used by the federal government
NIIN
National Item Identification Number - 9 digit number that identifies each item of supply used by the DoD
COG
Cognizance Symbol - 2 digit alphanumeric code prefixed to NSNs that identifies the type of material
MCC
Material Control Code - single digit alphabetic code that proceeds to COG used to indicate the rate of usage; assigned by inventory manager; not all items have MCCs
SMIC
Special Material Identification Code - two digit alphanumeric code; “Assigned to certain items which require source of quality control, technical design, or configuration control, and/or special controls for procurement, receipt, inspection, test, storage, and/or issue.”; not all items have a SMIC
NICN
Navy Item Control Number - “13 character identification number assigned by ICPs or other Navy item managers for permanent or temporary control of selected non-NSN items under their cognizance”
LICN
Local Item Control Number - 13 character code assigned locally to a P/N when the item has not been assigned to an NSN; will be maintained locally in R-Supply
