3.2 learning outcomes Flashcards
What are the external sections of the bacterial cell
- Appendages (Flagella, Pili, Fimbriae)
- Glycocalyx
-Capsule
-Slime layer - Axial filaments
Internal structures (CEMP IN CR)
CEMP IN CR

Ribosomes
Flagellum function
Motility
Flagellum is separated into 3 distinct parts: What are they?
Filament- outermost region
Hook- attaches to the filaments
Basal body- consists of rod and pairs of rings; anchors flagellum to the cell wall and membrane
Filament
Outermost region

Polar arrangement of flagella (4 types)
Monotrichous: single flagellum
Lophotrichous: small bunches or tufts of flagella emerging from the same site
Amphitrichous: flagella at both poles of the cell
Peritrichous arrangement:
Flagella are dispersed randomly over the surface of the cell
