3.2 atoms into irons Flashcards
How do elements react to form compounds?
Elements react together to form compounds by gaining or losing electrons or by sharing electrons
The elements in group one react with the atoms of what group?
Group 7
As the atoms from group one and group 7 react what happens to the electrons?
As they react, atoms of group one elements can each lose one electron to gain the stable electron structure of a noble gas. This electron can then be given to an atom from group 7, which an also achieve the stable electronic structure of a noble gas.
What is covalent bonding?
The attraction between two atoms that share one or more pairs of electrons
What is ionic bonding?
The electric static force of attraction between positively and negatively charged ions
What is an ion?
An ion is a charged particle produced by the loss or gain of electrons
