3.2 Flashcards
Cell organelles and functions
supports and shapes cell, provides strength
cytoskeleton
brain of the cell “mayor”, stores genetic information (DNA), has 2 parts:nuclear envelope and nucleolus
nucleus
Rough: produces proteins and lipids
Smooth:breaks down drugs and alcohol
Endoplasmic Reticulum
“Factory”, makes proteins
Ribosomes
“UPS”, modifies proteins and gets them ready to ship out of the cell
Golgi Apparatus
“cars”, Membrane-bound sacs that hold, materials and transports them throughout and out of the cell
Vesicles
“power plant”, supplies energy to the cell, the reactions to make energy occur in the inner membrane. The membrane is folded so that more reactions take place.
Mitochondria
fluid-filled sacs that hold materials such as wastes and toxins. These are very large in plan cells
vacuoles
“garbage man” contain enzymes to digest material
lysosomes
tubes arranged in a circle, help divide DNA, form cilia and flagella
centrioles
provides rigid support
cell wall
converts solar energy to chemical energy
chloroplasts
