3.2 Flashcards
What is bivarate data?
Data collected on 2 variables from the same set of observations.
What are explanatory variables?
This is the independent variable or x-variable.
What are response variables?
This is the dependent variable or y-variable.
When do you use a scatterplot?
This is used when you have 2 variables and you are trying to determine the relationship between the 2.
What is correlation?
This is the measure of the direction and strength of a linear relationship between x and y.
What is the coefficient of determination?
This is the proportion of the total sample variation in the response that can be explained by a linear relationship.
What is linear regression?
This technique allows you to summarize the data and predict what will happen in the future as well.
What is residual?
This is the error term that accounts for the lack of accuracy from the line of regression.
