Q
Blockade technique Stellate Ganglion
A
Standard preop assessment + Consent
SLIMRAG
- Anterior approach
Supine with head extended
some advocate turn to contra side + open mouth - Level C6
cricoid cartilage
displace sheath laterally
whilst trachea moves medially
5
Q
Blockade technique Stellate Ganglion
A
- Insert a 25mm 25 g needle
directly perpendicular to skin
onto TV process C6 (chassiagnacs tubercle)
4 Withdraw approx. 5mm
inject approx. 20mL LA
- Large volume required for
cephalic + caudal migration
block lower thoracic segment ganglion - Fluoroscopic confirmation needle position
before injection of LA
6
Q
Complications
Misplaced needle
A
Misplaced Needle
- Haematoma from vascular trauma
(Carotid, IJV, Vertebral) - Airway compression if large haematoma
- Nerve trunk injury
Vagus + RLNI - BP root injury
- PTX
- HTX
- Chylothorax
- Oesophageal perf

Spread LA
A
Spread LA
IV injection -
carotid artery / vertebral A / IJV
- Neuraxial / bp spread
epidural / intrathecal block - Local spread
-hoarseness
(RLN)
- Elevated hemidiaphragm
(phrenic N.) - Horner’s Syndrome
