3.1.9 rate equations Flashcards
write a general equation for the rate
rate = k [A] ^m [B] ^n
what is zero order?
concentration of a zero order reactant has no effect on rate of reaction
if you doubled the concentration, initial rate would be the same
what is first order?
concentration of a first order reactant has a directly proportional relationship with rate
if you double concentration rate also doubles
what is second order?
the concentration of a second order reactant has an even greater effect on rate of reaction
increasing concentration by a factor of y increases rate by y^2
what is an order?
orders are the power of the concentration in the rate equation
how do you calculate overall order?
add the orders together
what is the rate determining step?
the slowest step
what is the Arrhenius equation?
k = Ae -Ea/RT
k- rate constant
A - Arrhenius constant
e - exponential
Ea - activation energy
R - gas constant
T - temperature
