Q

Iron ions

A

-transports oxygen in haemoglobin
└a protein made of 4 polypeptide chains each with in iron ion in the centre

-oxygen binds to Fe2+ in haemoglobin which temporarily becomes Fe3+ until oxygen is released

Q

Phosphate ions

A

-aka phosphate group when attached to another molecule

  • ATP: bonds between phosphate groups store energy
  • DNA/RNA: structure, allows nucleotides to join → polynucleotides
