3.1.5 Arguments Against Appeasement Flashcards
What did Hitler talk about in his book ‘Mein Kampf’ and how could this show peoples resentment for Appeasement?
Hitler had written in his book ‘Mein Kampf’ that he would gladly take up arms and he frequently talked about war with countries in order to make Germany into a strong country. He made no secret too of his hatred for the Allies. This could make people resent Appeasement as it is allowing Hitler to gain too much power and start another war.
Some historians argue they were too naive in trusting Hitler. Which British politician felt that not standing up o Hitler make the country look weak and Hitler could continue to do as he pleased?
Winston Churchill
Why did some people resent Appeasement due to the Treaty of Versailles?
Some people felt that Hitler shouldn’t be able to get away with breaking the terms of the Treaty of Versailles and that he should be punished by the League
How did Appeasement have a domino effect on other powerful dictators around the world?
Other powerful dictators around the world such as Stalin (USSR), Mussolini (Italy) and Japan saw that Hitler could get away with doing as he pleased. Therefore this gave them similar ideas that they could do as they pleased
