Q

What are the five elements of every plot? List them, and then briefly describe where we see each one in A Christmas Carol. Be as specific as possible!
Your Answer:

A

The five elements of every plot are exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. The exposition is where we meet all the main characters and meet Scrooge’s character. The rising action is Scrooge’s journey with the three spirits. The climax is the turning point where Scrooge keeps Christmas in his heart. The falling action is when he buys the turkey and treats everyone nicely. The resolution is when Scrooge pretends to be mad at Bob for being late, but he gives him a raise instead.

Q

How would you describe the central conflict of this story? Describe it in 4-5 sentences. Consider the following questions as you develop your answer. What type of conflict is it? How does it contribute to Scrooge’s character development? What type of character is Scrooge?
Your Answer:

A

The central conflict of the story is Individual vs. supernatural. I say this because if you look and read the book, you will realize that Scrooge is taken on a life-changing journey with three spirits. Each spirit points out to Scrooge how his greed and lack of care for others have corrupted his heart. Scrooge is a dynamic character because he changes from a greedy, selfish man to a generous and kind man.
