3.1.2 Carbohydrates Flashcards
What are Monosaccharides?
Monosaccharides are the monomers from which larger carbohydrates are made.
What are common Monosaccharides?
Glucose, galactose and fructose.
What type of bond is formed in a condensation reaction between two monosaccharides?
A glycosidic bond.
What is formed by the condensation of two monosaccharides?
Disaccharides.
What is maltose?
Maltose is a disaccharide formed by condensation of two glucose molecules.
What is Sucrose?
Sucrose is a disaccharide formed by condensation of a glucose molecule and a fructose molecule.
What is Lactose?
Lactose is a disaccharide formed by condensation of a glucose molecule and a galactose molecule.
What are isomers?
Isomers are molecules with the same molecular formulas, but different arrangements of atoms.
What are the two different isomers of Glucose?
α-glucose and β-glucose.
