Q

Pip dwells deeply on Estella’s remarks that he is coarse and common. He is suddenly aware of his “place” in society.

Do you think Pip’s new self-awareness will help or hinder his growth and maturity as a young man? Explain your answer in 4–5 sentences.

Your Answer:
This will help Pip in the end. Even though it is clearly hurting him now, at the story’s end, it will make Pip stronger. One reason why I say this is because even though Estella makes these remarks, he will end up realizing that you can’t impress everyone in the world. Then, because of this, he will move on in life and eventually meet people who are a lot nicer than Estella.

Q

Do you think Miss Havisham’s actions are understandable/reasonable? Or has she completely lost herself to past regrets?

Explain your answer in 4–5 sentences.

Your Answer:
In my opinion, I think she has lost herself in past regrets. Some reason why I say this includes how she wears a wedding dress and keeps a wedding cake in the corner of a room that has all kinds of insects on it. She also, for some reason, wants to see kids play more than anything, and it states in the book that she has never seen daylight since she was born. Therefore, she has a ton of regret over her past life.
