Q

In a short paragraph (5–7 sentences), compare and contrast the two Christmas stories we read this week: “Gift of the Magi” and “The Heavenly Christmas Tree.”

Do these stories present opposing or complementary perspectives on Christmas?
Do they share similar or different themes?
Use examples from the text to support your position.

A

In these two books, you can see many similarities and differences. These two stories present complementary perspectives on Christmas because they show how it’s not about gifts; it’s about meeting others’ needs and caring about them. However, these stories share different themes because, in the story Gift of the Magi, Jim and Della meet each other’s needs even though they sacrificed the things they loved. In The Heavenly Christmas Tree, however, nobody meets the boy’s needs, and society constantly rejects him. Therefore, it is clear that these Christmas stories have many similarities and differences.
