What is organisation culture?
The way that Poole do things in a company and the way that they expect things to be done.
3 benefits of an organisation having a strong culture
-Employees need less supervision
-staff are more loyal staff turnover is lower
- it increases employees motivation.
What is power culture
Have centralised structure where decision making authority is limited to a small number of people.
What is role culture?
Decisions come from senior managers so employees don’t have the opportunity to get involved in the decision making process.
What is person culture?
Usually used in professional partnerships.
-the objectives of these firms will be defined by personal ambitions of the individuals involved.
What is task culture
-Places an emphasis on getting tasks done.
-get small teams together to work on a project. Then disbands them.
Why is changing organisations culture difficult?
- employees usually resists any kind of change
- can be very expensive it might involve changing the office layout.
- HR departments might need to change their recruitment and induction procedures .
What are the 3 dimensions of national culture
1)Power distance: the extent that people accept that power and wealth is distributed unequally. Societies with low power distance expect equality.
2)uncertainty avoidance: the extent to which people attempt to minimise uncertainty. This can be done by introducing rules or regulations.
3) individualism vs collectivism: societies with high individualism focus on personal achievement.
Describe the steps involved in carrying out strategic planning?
-senior managers set the long term corporate objectives based on the mission
-identify the strengths and weaknesses of the objectives
-develop possible strategies
-plan how it will be implemented
- set up processes and monitoring.
