What is job production
Job production is when one single product is made at a time.
Products are made at high wuality and designed for a specific client or customer. Higher prices can be charged
What is flow production
Flow production uses production line with continuous movements of items
Mass items are produced. Example cola, cars, toothpaste
Advantages of flow production
Business can make larger wuantities. They can bulk buy
Disdvantages to flow production
- High costs to buy factory/machinery
- Breakdowns/Lost production can be costly
- Low motivation of staff (repetitive tasks)
What is lean production
Lean production tries using very few resources. Waste is also kept to a minimum
Examples of waste in lean production
Transport - Unnecessary movements of parts and employees BETWEEN processes
Motion - Unnecessary movements of parts and employees WITHIN processes
Inventory - Stock sitting around unused
Waiting - Employees/parts waiting to be processed
Over-processing - Beyond the standard required
Overproduction - Producing more than demanded by the customer
Defects - No getting products right initially, havign to correct them
What is Just-in-time
Business orders parts and gets them delivered same day from the supplier rather than stored parts in a warehouse
Warehouse full of parts = just-in-case
Parts arrived when just needed = just-in-time
Disadvantges of just-in-time
The business wont be able to meet unexpected surges in demand for products
Business wont be able to quickly replace parts
