Q

What are cell adhesion molecules (CAMs)?
CAMs are proteins.

Give three different types

A

Bind two proteins together. All CAMs are integral membrane proteins

Q

What are cadherins

A
  • Glycoproteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell adhesion
  • Often hold similar cell types together (eg. epithelial cells)
  • Different cells usually have different cadherin type

Q

Integrins

A
  • Two membrane-spanning chains (alpha, beta)
  • Involved in communication with extracellular matrix
  • Active when not crossed
