What is the purpose of the 30 second sit to stand test?
To test leg strength and endurance
What kind of chair is required for this?
A chair with a straight back w/o arm rest (seat 17 inches high)
How should pts hands be positioned for this test?
Place your hands on the opposite shoulder crossed, at the wrists
instructions:
* Sit in the middle of the chair
* Place your hands on the opposite shoulder crossed, at the wrists
* Keep your feet flat on the floor
* Keep your back straight, and keep your arms against your chest
* On “Go”, rise to a full standing position, then sit back down again
* Repeat this for 30 seconds
What should you do if the pt requires arms to push off to be able to stand?
Terminate the test and record a score of 0
When measuring count the # of times the pt comes to a full standing position in 30 seconds
* if the pt is over halfway to a standing position when 30 seconds have elapsed, count it as a stand
