what are the variations of a papilloma?
- Squamous papilloma
- Verruca Vulgaris (wart)
- Condyloma Acuminatum (Venereal wart)
- Focal epithelial Hyperplasia (Heck’s disease)
- Sinonasal papillomas
What is the difference between verruca vulgaris and a squamous papilloma?
-Verruca vulgaris has a sessile base, its white, and more flat and braod
What is Condyloma accuminatum?
-Clinically look like broad flat areas or multiple papillary lesions throughout the mouth (multiple never just one), found in HIV + pts (HPV 16 and 18)
If you see something that looks like condyloma accuminatum in a child what are you thinking?
- multi-Focal epithelial hyperplasia (HPV 13 and 32)
- aka Hecks disease
What does the flange of an ill-fitting denture cause?
-Epulis fissuratum
What is the histologic diagnosis of an epulis fissuratum?
-Focal inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia
If a patient doesn’t remove a denture what will you likely find underneath?
-Inflammatory Papillary hyperplasia
If you see an ulcer on attached mucosa what are you thinking?
-HSV type 1
What is the initial exposure of HSV type 1 called?
-Acute herpetic gingivostomatitis (occurs between 6 months - 5 yrs)
