30 - Anti Ice / De-Ice Flashcards
Define the difference between Anti-Ice and De-icing
Anti ice - Prevents ice build it
De-ice - Removes already formed ice
What sections of the wing ae heated for anti ice?
Slats 3,4 & 5
How is probe ice protection achieved?
Electrical heating of the individual probes, sensors and drain masts.
How is eng anti icing achieved?
Direct bleed tap from HP compressor stage through eng air intake anti ice valve.
CFM-56 - 5th stage
V2500 - 7th stage
PW6000 - 9th stage
For maintenance purposes, how long will Wing anti icing run for if P/Bsw on ground is selected?
30secs
What type of ducts, distribute wing air?
Piccolo ducts
What are the wing anti icing operating Px?
23 PSI - Normal
14.5 PSI - Low
30.5 PSI - High
What happens if the PHC (Probe Heat Cpu) power supplied C/B is pulled or LGCIU power?
The related probes and static
ports will be fully heated.
Same, if the EIU power supply is pulled, the windows will be fully heated.
(Hence why Pitot/Static CBs are pulled as standard on post FLT.)
What redundancy do the heated windows have?
2x single loop sensors. 1x of the 2x is a spare, and needs to be manually switched over in the event of a failure.
Where are drain masts monitored?
The FAP (Flight Attendant Panel) shows warnings generated by CIDS (Cabin Intercommunication Data System).
The drain mast CU (Control Unit) also has basic BITE function on the unit itself.
What are the 2x lvls of Ice detection?
ICE DETECTED + SEVERE ICE DETECTED
What happens whilst eng anti ice is activated, to stop flame out from too much water ingestion to the engine?
Continuous ignition
