3. Trophic Levels Flashcards
Living organisms obtain
Matter and energy.
Living organisms use matter for
For building new cells and creating new cells (growing).
Living organisms use energy for
For every chemical reaction and for body motion.
Three trophic levels in ecosystems
Producers, consumers and decomposers.
Producers
Autotrophs are the producers because they make their own food by photosynthesis. They transform inorganic matter into organic matter.
Consumers
Consumers need to feed on other organisms or on organic matter. They can be hervibores (primary consumers), carnivores (secondary consumers) or omnivores (secondary and tertiary consumers).
Decomposers
They eat all the remains and wastes of other organisms and death matter. They transform the organic matter into inorganic matter that can be used by producers again.
