To speak about:

1. a desire not achieved e.g. Ojalá hubiera llamado (I wish you had called, but you didint)
2. to indicate a hypothetical action in the past e.g. ¡En tu lugar no le hubiera dejado entrar en mi casa! (in your place I wouldnt have let him enter, but you did!)
3. to refer to actions that we regret occured or didn’t occur e.g. ¡Me hubiera gustado ir con vosotros! (I would have like to have gone, but I couldn’t)
4. used with nuance in sub oracion to validate action in the main oracion e.g. Cuando entré, me extraño que no hubiera llegado para la ceromonia (I thought you’d be there but you werent)
