- Work together to try to understand causes, triggers and reinforcers of the identified problems
- May involve behavioural assessment, observing or administering interviews

Stage 4: Intervention implementation
- Responsibility of the consultant to find an intervention researched by literature
- Job of consultant to train consultee on administration for later independent implementation

Stage 5: Program evaluation stage
- consultant observes consultee in natural setting
- if not successful, team can determine if it was because of lack of integrity or because it didn’t work for this particular case
- they can then cycle through the previous steps, reanalyze problem, select different intervention, review how to administer with integrity
