- purpose of marriage is love and happiness. Allah blesses married couples with his mercy

“Sex outside marriage should never be allowed”
FOR
* forbidden by Allah because it can break up the family ‘strike the adultress x100’
* can lead to children being born without a stable family environment which is bad for society
* should always take place within the committed relationship of marriage as this is a blessing from Allah
* *‘guard their chastity’
AGAINST
* many couples are happy in committed long term relationships but are not married so marriage is unnecessary
* sex before marriage helps a couple become closer and discover if they are compatible and prevent problems later
* contraception means that it is possible to have a sex for pleasure without having the responsibility of marriage or children and so create a happier society.

Explain why family is important
- cornerstone of society and children are a gift from Allah to help develop a secure society
- the environment where children learn Muslim values and grow up to be good adults
- ‘the best of you is he who is best to his family’
- ‘he who has no compassion for our little ones and does not acknowledge the honour due to our elders is not one of us.’

Explain how families are supported by the Ummah
- unites families in a common bond as strengthening the family keeps society stable
- ‘hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided’
- helps to educate children so that they follow the straight path
- ‘those who show the most perfect faith are those who are kindest to their families’
- helps the family to care for the young/old
- ‘he who has no compassion for our little ones and does not acknowledge the honour due to our elders is not one of us’.

“Contraception should not be used”
FOR
* Muhammad said it was better not to use it because its interfering with Allah’s plan ‘Allah grants children to whoever he wills
* denying faith in Allah as the provider as children are a blessing
* stop the ummah from growing, purpose of marriage is procreation

* Muhammad did not forbid it
* not ready for parenthood and cannot provide care and love to a child
* protect women whose health may be adversely affected by having a child

* due to biological differences,
* ‘men have a degree over them’ - men have more physical strength
* role of the mother is most important in the sight of Allah

* Allah created everyone from a single soul everyone is equal
* in the modern world men and women are both capable of providing / looking after a family

“Attitudes to homosexuality are changing”

* Some Muslims accept the law of the land where homosexuals now have equal rights
* Some non-religious people believe the scientific evidence that homosexuality is genetic and not a lifestyle choice
* as its becoming more acceptable in society it has made same sex relationships normal
AGAINST
* Allah created male and female in order to reproduce so homosexual couples are disobeying Allah
* its wrong and against natural law so still do not allow them to practice any form of homosexuality
* stoning in some Muslim countries according to Shari’ah law
* Surah Lut ‘You lust men rather than women’
