What Catholic beliefs were included in the Six Articles Act?
- Transubstantiation (bread and wine = body and blood)
- Emphasised 7 sacraments as essential for salvation
- Communion in one kind was only for the laity
- Emphasised need for priests to remain celibate
Why werent people happy with England’s position by 1547?
Conservatives = The Reformation led to catholicism without a pope - and there was little logic in this
Reformists = Henry still relied on bishops who preached Popes doctrines to maintain split, and so there was no complete reform ,
What elements of protestantism had been introduced to the church, during the late 1530s/early 1540s?
- Bible was translated into English (1537)
- Some services were introduced in English by Cramner in 1545
- Much less emphasis on saints
- saints days reduced to 25
- Laity forbidden to go on pilgrimages to offer prayers to saints
How did ordinary people view the reformation?
They accepted Henry as head of church, but were slow to accept protestant beliefs

- Discussions/debates about the future shape of the church/protestant ideologies was beginning to take place at universities.
What social problems were more apparent during Henry’s reign?
- Noticeable rise in population - putting pressure on
food supplies, jobs and rend and leads to inflation - Change of land use fromcrop production to enclosures led to disruption of village life
Did Henry’s encourage/support exploration and international trade?
No, He only focused european trade and foreign policy aims
How was humanism viewed during Henry’s reign?
It was becoming a lot more widespread with the apid development of printing presses and more people receiving education
What was Henry successful at doing, by the end of his reign?
He was successful in raising the profile of the monarchy and controlling noble rivals by patronage or by harsh punishments
