3. Gluteal Region Muscles Flashcards
Gemellus superior origin + insertion
origin
- external surface or ischial spine
insertion
- medial side of greater trochanter of femur
(with obturator internus tendon)
Gemellus Superior innervation
nerves from L5, S1 (nerve to obturator internus)
Gemellus Superior action
- external rotation extended hip
- abduction flexed hip
Gemellus Inferior origin + insertion
origin
- upper aspect of ischial tuberosity
insertion
- medial side of greater trochanter of femur (with obturator internus tendon)
Gemellus Inferior innervation
nerves from L5, S1 (nerve to quadratus femoris)
Gemellus Inferior action
- external rotation extended hip
- abduction flexed hip
Obturator Externus origin + insertion
origin
- external surface of obturator membrane
insertion
-trochanteric fossa of femur
Obturator Externus innervation
obturator nerve
Obturator Externus action
external rotation of hip
Gluteus Minimus origin + insertion
origin
- gluteal surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
insertion
- anterolateral aspect of greater trochanter of the femur
Gluteus Minimus innervation
superior gluteal nerve
Gluteus Minimus action
internal rotation and abduction of hip
support pelvis during gait
Gluteus Medius origin + insertion
origin
- gluteal surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
insertion
- lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Gluteus Medius innervation
superior gluteal nerve
- (medius and minimus same innervation)
Gluteus Medius action
internal rotation and abduction of hip
support pelvis during gait
