#3: Data Center Fundamentals (Part 1) Flashcards
LAN stands for
Local area network
CPU
Central processing unit, brains of the computer, conducts comm. between components of server
HDD/SSD
Hard disk drive/solid state drive, storage for all the data, transfers only block data
RAM
Random access memory, volatile memory where working data is stored
NIC
Network interface card, controllers for external devices including keyboards
Clients
processing power designed to fit the needs of one user
Servers
more powerful, more storage, more CPU power, more operation system functions, better security, application-specific
Tower
Looks like a desktop w/ server components, takes up more space than racks/blades, offers components to support closet deployments
Racks
High-density design for installation in data center racks, compact vertical arrangement, space-efficient, requires external power
Blades
Modular design to minimize space and power consumption, chassis based/blade enclosure, chassis provides power
Composable
Modular server/storage/networking, chassis provide power, networking, cooling , simple “converged” deployment
GUI
Graphical user interface, visual interaction with the program, ex: windows desktop
CLI
Command-line interface, commands typed out, MD-DOS window, Linux Terminal
