(3) Cell Specialisation Flashcards
What are specialised cells?
Specialised cells are cells with specific features to perform a particular function
What do stem cells do?
Stem cells differentiate to give us different types of cells
Give 3 adaptations of red blood cells:
- ) Contains a chemical called haemoglobin which binds with oxygen to form a red color.
- ) Biconcave shape which increase surface area
- ) No nucleus to allow more space for haemoglobin
Give 3 adaptations of nerve cells:
- ) Many dendrites to form many connections with many other nerve cells.
- ) The cell is long to allow transmission of nerve impulses at a long distance.
- ) Fatty tissue surround the cell to speed up and insulate transmission
Give 3 adaptations of a sperm cell:
- )The nucleus is located at the very top of the cell which contains male DNA.
- ) The mid-piece is full of lots of mitochondria to provide energy to the cell to be able to swim to the egg cell
- ) Tail/Flagellum to swim to the egg
Give 3 adaptations of a muscle cell
- ) Main function: Allow motion
- ) The muscle cell contains a lot of mitochondria to release more energy than other cells.
- )
Where are root hair cells found?
Root hair cells are found in the roots of a plant
Give one adaptation of a root hair cell:
Have a large surface area to absorb as many minerals as possible
What are phloem?
Phloem are living cells that transport sugars up and down a plant.
What are xylem?
Xylem are dead cell transporting water only UP a cell
Where are palisade cells found?
Palisade cells are found in leaves
What are palisade cells like?
They are packed with chloroplasts
