What is an aerodrome?
An area of land or water used for the taking off and landing of aircraft
When do you need prior permission from the aerodrome authority to land at an aerodrome?

Take off distance available.
The length of the take off runway available plus the clear way
What does ASDA mean?
Accelerated Stop Distance Available.
The length of the runway plus the length of the stopway
What is the clear way?
The distance from the end of the runway to the first significant obstruction
What is the stopway?
The length of ground after the runway that can be used to stop the aircraft if needed
What does LDA mean?
Landing distance available.
The length of runway deemed suitable for landing
What does damp mean?
The surface has changed colour due to moisture
What does wet mean?
The surface is soaked but there is no standing water
What does water patches mean?
There are significant patches of standing water visible
What does flooded mean?
There are extensive patches of standing water
What colour are runway markings?
White
What colour are taxiway markings and aircraft stand markings?
Yellow
What colour are runway threshold lights?
Green
What colour are runway end lights?
Red
What colour are aerodrome signs?
Red background with white writing
What colour are low intensity obstacle lights on vehicles?
Flashing yellow
